Catering > Our Venues > Afternoon Tea
The Traditional Afternoon tea was introduced as a middle way meal between lunch and tea in England 1840. It was an idea presented by Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. It is said that the duchess would become hungry around 4pm in the afternoon and normally her dinner would not be till 8pm. Which meant it was a long period between lunch and dinner. Therefore, she would ask that a tray of tea, bread, butter & cakes be brought to her late afternoon. She continued to do this and eventually invited friends & family to join her.
